Empowering Young Adults With Disabilities
Inclusive Employment Opportunities

Our Story

The Next Move Program was founded in 2010 as an internship initiative at a prominent medical organization in Richmond, Virginia. It was inspired by an executive's personal experience with a child who has developmental disabilities. Under the leadership of Mary Townley and Elizabeth Redford, the program expanded in 2013 to include all major school systems in the Greater Richmond Area, adding a classroom component to vocational training. In December 2015, it became a separate 501(c)(3) organization, further extending its reach and launching additional programming in Williamsburg in 2019. The Tablespoons Bakery initiative, started in 2017, opened in November 2021 as a job training and supported employment site.

Our Impact
