Our Story
Founded in 1981, NEWS emerged from the urgent need for a safe haven for women and children fleeing domestic abuse. A group of compassionate community members recognized the dire situation and began taking in those in need. With the support of local leaders, a dedicated shelter was established, offering a refuge where survivors could find safety, healing, and empowerment. Today, NEWS has evolved into a robust organization, staffed by trained domestic violence and sexual assault counselors, providing 24/7 shelter and support services to approximately 1200 individuals each year.
Impact
NEWS impacts the lives of around 1200 survivors annually, offering essential services such as emergency shelter and support groups.
