The Newport Tree Conservancy, originally founded as the Newport Tree Society in 1987, emerged from the efforts of concerned citizens who recognized the decline of Newport's once-legendary urban forest. Over the years, the organization has established the Newport Tree Commission, advocated for the Tree Protection Ordinance, and planted thousands of trees, fostering community engagement in replanting efforts.
