About New York City Parents in Action

Founded in 1980, New York City Parents in Action is dedicated to serving the parents of over 26,000 families in New York City independent schools. Through facilitated meetings, parents are provided a safe space to exchange information and support one another. The annual Teen Scene panel, established in 1986, allows parents to hear directly from teens about the challenges they face, including academic pressures, social issues, and substance abuse. This initiative fosters a strong parental network and encourages open communication between parents and their children, which is essential for nurturing responsible young adults.
