City School of the Arts

Our Story

In 2002, Dr. Geoffrey Kiorpes began teaching piano in a storage closet at a Bronx charter school, while Kate Quarfordt introduced theater classes in a trailer. From these humble beginnings, a vibrant performing arts program emerged. By 2013, Jamie Davidson joined as an instructional leader, envisioning a school where arts and student leadership are central to the mission. Together with a dedicated team of artists, educators, and former students, the dream of City School of the Arts was realized.

Impact

City School of the Arts stands out as the only school in the SUNY portfolio that achieved higher state exam results in 2022 compared to 2019. This remarkable achievement reflects the commitment of the staff to ensure continuous learning during the pandemic. Through our comprehensive Arts Program, students not only master national arts standards but also become more engaged and develop as imaginative learners.
