Our Story
New Roots Institute, formerly known as Factory Farming Awareness Coalition, was founded in 2010 by Katie Cantrell at the University of California, Berkeley. The organization transitioned from a volunteer-run initiative to a professional entity in 2013, achieving 501(c)(3) status in 2018. In 2023, it rebranded to better reflect its mission of empowering the next generation to end factory farming through education and leadership development.
Our Impact
New Roots Institute has positively impacted over 370,000 students through its educational programs and has trained over 400 fellows in leadership roles focused on ending factory farming.
