Our Story
New Partners Community Solar Corporation pioneered the first community solar project in Washington, DC, in 2017. Founders Herb Stevens and Jeff Lesk installed a solar array on the rooftop of Nixon Peabody's law offices, redirecting energy savings to support vulnerable families. This innovative approach established the District’s first low-income community solar energy program and the first Community Renewable Energy Facility (CREF).
Impact
New Partners distributes 100% of the economic benefits from its solar arrays to over 200 low-income families, offsetting more than 450 tons of carbon emissions. The organization has also created the first battery-powered resiliency hub for low-income residents at Jubilee Housing’s Maycroft Apartments.
