Our Story
The New Paltz Fire Department, established in 1861, has a long-standing tradition of serving the community. Originally known as Huguenot Fire Engine Company No. 1, it was the first fire department in New Paltz. After a brief period without fire protection, the Ulster Hook and Ladder Company No.1 was formed in 1889, and both units merged in 1918 to create the New Paltz Fire Department. This dedicated volunteer service responds to approximately 650 fire calls annually, ensuring the safety of residents and visitors in the Village and Town of New Paltz, including the State University of New York at New Paltz and a portion of the New York State Thruway.
