About New Mexico Jazz Workshop

The New Mexico Jazz Workshop (NMJW) was established on February 12, 1976, by a passionate group of jazz musicians dedicated to creating a platform for jazz performance and education. Initially a co-operative, NMJW has evolved over the decades, bringing renowned international jazz artists to the KiMo Theatre and expanding its reach to Albuquerque in 1979. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, NMJW enriched the local music scene with events like the Summer Music Festival and the Women’s Voices festival, showcasing local talent and fostering a love for jazz.

Impact of NMJW

Today, NMJW continues to connect with thousands of students and community members through its diverse programs, including the Roots of Jazz, Honor Band, and Jazz Camp. The organization is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in New Mexico through music education and performance.
