Our Story

The New Jersey Coalition for Diverse and Inclusive Schools (NJCDIS) was established to confront the persistent racial and economic segregation in New Jersey's public schools. Founded by a group of dedicated activists, educators, and legal experts, including Justice Gary S. Stein, NJCDIS emerged from the urgent need to address the ongoing disparities that affect countless students. The organization is committed to community outreach, education, and legal action, including a significant lawsuit filed against the State of New Jersey on May 17, 2018, marking the anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education.

Our Impact

Through its initiatives, NJCDIS aims to dismantle the severe segregation in public schools that limits educational opportunities for thousands of children. The organization’s legal actions emphasize the state’s constitutional obligation to rectify these injustices, ensuring that every child has access to a diverse and enriching educational experience.
