The New Harmony Project: A Legacy of Empowering Writers
Founded in April 1986, The New Harmony Project emerged from a gathering of theatre, film, and television professionals who recognized the need for storytelling that transcends mere entertainment. Nestled in the tranquil setting of New Harmony, Indiana, this initiative has dedicated over three decades to fostering a community of artists committed to creating impactful narratives. Each spring, writers are invited to engage in a collaborative environment where they can dream, create, and workshop new scripts, all while enjoying shared meals and meaningful conversations.
In 2017, The New Harmony Project expanded its offerings to include workshops, developmental support, commissions, residencies, and retreats throughout Central and Southern Indiana. Although the COVID-19 pandemic paused these programs, a renewed strategic vision was adopted in 2022, focusing on building a just, equitable, and antiracist organization. This mission reflects the complexity of hope and the commitment to nurturing writers who aspire to change the world.
