Our Story
In 2006, a group of incarcerated men recognized the power of community and support. They developed a comprehensive curriculum of peer-led courses to equip fellow inmates with essential life skills and recovery principles, preparing them for successful reentry into society. This initiative led to the establishment of a nonprofit organization, originally named Gold Canyon Heart & Home, which has since evolved into the New Freedom Project. With the support of corrections administration, peer mentors have created unsupervised classroom settings, fostering a safe environment for learning and growth. Remarkably, none of the 140+ original mentors have recidivated, and they have collectively assisted over 4,200 individuals in reintegrating into their communities.
