New Endeavors by Women (NEW) was founded in 1988 in Washington, DC, to provide more than just emergency shelter for homeless women. Recognizing the limitations of existing shelters, a group of dedicated women initiated a transitional housing program that offers women a safe place to live for three months. This initiative allows them the time and support needed to stabilize their lives and embrace their identities.
