Our Story
New Detroit was established in response to the civil unrest of 1967, which revealed deep-rooted social issues in the community. At the request of Michigan Governor George Romney and Detroit Mayor Jerome Cavanagh, business leader Joseph L. Hudson, Jr. brought together a diverse coalition to address the challenges facing the city. Since then, New Detroit has served as a vital platform for collaboration among business, civic, grassroots, and religious leaders, all dedicated to fostering positive change in the region.
