Our Story
New Beginnings of Tampa Inc was founded by Pastor Tom and Ginny, who recognized that merely providing food to the homeless was not enough to address the deeper issues they faced. Inspired by a moment of compassion, they began their journey to create lasting change. In 2002, they established New Beginnings as a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping homeless individuals and families transform their lives.
Initially utilizing a church parsonage to house homeless women, the founders quickly realized the complexity of chronic homelessness. With a vision for a holistic approach, they acquired a large property that became the main campus for the Transitional Housing Program. This facility, along with an Emergency Shelter on Nebraska Avenue, allows New Beginnings to provide essential services to those in need.
Over the years, New Beginnings has built a dedicated team and established partnerships that enhance its ability to offer comprehensive support. Services include food, clothing, shelter, rehabilitation, life skills training, counseling, case management, adult education, employment assistance, and permanent housing placement. A significant focus is placed on assisting homeless veterans, who make up 25% of the homeless population, through specialized programs that connect them with vital resources.
In addition to supporting veterans, New Beginnings is launching a Youth Mentoring Program aimed at helping at-risk children develop positive attitudes and life skills. The organization also continues its Hunger Relief Program, distributing nutritious food to struggling families and individuals living on the streets.
