Our Story

Founded in 1904, the New Amsterdam Musical Association is the oldest African-American musical organization in the United States. Established to support black musicians during a time of exclusion, NAMA became the first black music union, allowing artists to perform in and around New York City. For over a century, it has been a cornerstone of black culture in Harlem.
