Our Story

The Neurofibromatosis Support Group of West Michigan was founded in January 1985 by Sue DeGroot, MSW, a dedicated social worker at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. Initially, the group began with 45 attendees, many of whom were misinformed about neurofibromatosis (NF). In 1986, the support group transitioned to a member-led organization, continuing to meet regularly for educational and social events.

Impact

NF Michigan is the only regional organization providing physical, financial, and emotional support to families in Michigan affected by neurofibromatosis, enhancing their quality of life.
