Our Story

It all began at a kitchen table in November 2016, when eight women from diverse backgrounds gathered to welcome refugee families into their communities. Within two months, this small group grew to over 200 volunteers, partnering with resettlement agencies like HIAS and Catholic Charities. By March 2017, the first refugee arrived—a young man from Pakistan. Since then, Neighbors for Refugees has provided comprehensive resettlement services to 18 families, primarily in Westchester County, and has supported hundreds more across New York City, Long Island, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

Impact

Through the Road to Independence Fund (Y2I), Neighbors for Refugees has positively impacted over 300 refugees, Special Immigrant Visa holders, and asylum seekers in the New York Tri-State area. These families, having escaped violence and persecution, now have the tools and networks to thrive in a safer environment.
