About Neighborhood Self Help by Older Persons Project

Founded in 1980, Neighborhood Self Help by Older Persons Project, Inc. (SHOPP) is dedicated to enhancing the lives of over 10,000 older adults and caregivers in the Bronx each year. With a central office in the Hunts Point/Longwood community and over 35 service locations, SHOPP provides vital programs that foster resilience and community engagement.

Impact on the Community

SHOPP has successfully served more than 2,800 seniors through engaging group activities, technology classes, and socialization opportunities. The organization actively supports 1,100 seniors in health and wellness classes, while also addressing critical issues such as elder abuse and housing rights for over 1,700 individuals. Additionally, SHOPP delivers essential services to over 3,000 homebound seniors, providing meals, homecare, and companionship, totaling 60,887 nutritious meals served annually.
