Our Story

The Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter (NCS) was founded in 1982 by community leaders in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, driven by the belief that homelessness is a community responsibility. NCS serves individuals who are chronically homeless, formerly homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, offering them housing, community, and access to essential services.
