Empowering BIPOC Youth Through STEAM Education

In early 2014, a group of dedicated community members recognized a critical gap in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) opportunities for Black and Brown children in North and Northeast Portland. Schools in these areas often lacked funding and resources, limiting exposure to essential STEAM programs. The Northeast STEAM Coalition was formed to address this disparity, ensuring that every child of color, particularly African American youth, has access to a wide range of career options through STEAM education.

Impacting the Community

Since 2022, the Coalition has hosted numerous creative camps and events, offering hands-on experiences in game design, music video creation, space exploration, and more. These initiatives have enriched the lives of countless youth, fostering a love for STEAM subjects.
