Our Story

Founded in May 2018 by Adam Odsess-Rubin, National Queer Theater emerged from a vital need for a queer theater that fosters community and positive representation. Drawing inspiration from culturally-specific arts groups, this organization has become a beacon for social justice through the performing arts in New York City. With initiatives like the Criminal Queerness Festival, National Queer Theater collaborates with various organizations to uplift LGBTQ artists and communities.

Our Impact

National Queer Theater is dedicated to supporting queer communities through transformative performing arts programming. By empowering individuals living with HIV, LGBTQIA+ youth, elders, activists, and educators, the organization has made a significant cultural impact, recognized by the NYC Mayor’s Grant for Cultural Impact.
