About the National Institute on Scientific Teaching

Founded in 2004 by Profs. Jo Handelsman and Bill Wood, the National Institute on Scientific Teaching (NIST) emerged from the need to enhance undergraduate education for future research biologists. In 2020, NIST became an independent nonprofit organization, expanding its reach through innovative programs that focus on evidence-based teaching strategies.
