Our Story

Founded in 1981, the National Humanities Alliance Foundation emerged from a coalition of humanities organizations united to combat the Reagan administration's attempts to defund the National Endowment for the Humanities. Since then, NHA has tirelessly advocated for increased funding and support for humanities education, expanding its reach and influence across the nation.
