Our Story
In 2010, a group of dedicated Black Family Nurse Practitioners recognized the urgent need to create an organization focused on promoting Advanced Practice Nurses (APRNs) and addressing health disparities in underserved communities. This vision led to the establishment of the National Black Nurse Practitioner Association (NBNPA), formerly known as the Houston Metropolitan Black Nurse Practitioner Association. The founding members, including notable figures such as Natarsha L. Clark and Dr. Stephanie Brown-Elder, laid the groundwork for an organization that empowers Black Advanced Practice Nurses, fosters social fellowship, and serves as a philanthropic force in healthcare.
Since its formal recognition as a non-profit organization in Texas in December 2012 and achieving 501(c)(3) status in October 2014, NBNPA has been committed to advocating for health equity and the advancement of nurse practitioners. The slogan "Nurse Practitioners on the Move" encapsulates the spirit of this organization, which continues to strive for excellence in healthcare delivery.
