Founded in 1889 by five visionary women, the National Association of Women Artists Inc (NAWA) was established to create greater opportunities for professional women artists in a male-dominated art world. This pioneering organization promotes higher standards for women artists and provides them with the chance to exhibit their work, challenging the traditional associations of women with crafts and decorative arts.
