Our Story

At the heart of the Namibian Rural Education Fund lies a personal journey that began in a small village in Namibia. As a child, the struggle for education was palpable, with the nearest school a daunting four-hour walk away. The OvaHerero tribe, rich in culture yet marked by a tragic history, has always valued education as a pathway to a better future. In response to the community's need, a school was built, but without funding for essential hostel services, the dream of education was at risk of fading away.

In 2018, the Namibian Rural Education Fund was born out of a desire to bridge the gap between the USA and Namibia, ensuring that children could access the education they deserve. With the support of generous donors, NREF has provided vital resources such as nutrition programs, toiletries, and cleaning supplies, allowing the Oruuura Primary School to open its doors to 196 children, many of whom travel over 100 miles to attend.

Impact

The Oruuura Primary School and hostel serve children aged 5 to 20 from various tribes, including Ovaherero, Damara, Ovambo, and San. The hostel provides a safe haven for students who cannot return home daily, ensuring they receive meals and support. Since NREF's inception, over 300 children have been positively impacted, with more than $20,000 raised to support sustainable projects that engage the community and foster educational growth.
