Our Story

NAMI Cape Cod & The Islands, founded in 1982 by Edie and Leo Perlstein, began as AMICUS, a grassroots initiative aimed at fostering understanding and support for mental illness. Over the years, it has transformed into a vital resource for individuals and families affected by mental health challenges across Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket.

Impact

This organization provides free educational and support programs, significantly improving the lives of those affected by mental illness. With over 100 police officers trained in mental health crisis intervention, NAMI Cape Cod promotes better treatment and jail diversion for individuals in crisis.
