Support for Families of Fallen First Responders

Our Story

Founded in 1985 by Daniel J. “Rusty” Staub, the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund was created to support families of fallen first responders. Inspired by the tragic loss of a police officer, Rusty dedicated his efforts to ensure that these families are never forgotten. After the events of 9/11, the organization expanded its reach to include EMS personnel and Port Authority officers, doubling the number of families served.

Impact

In 2023, the organization provided assistance to approximately 530 families, distributing over $5.3 million in financial support. This ongoing assistance ensures that families of fallen first responders receive the help they need throughout their lives.
