About The Museum of Flight

Founded in 1964 by passionate aviation enthusiasts, The Museum of Flight was established to safeguard significant artifacts that represent the evolution of flight. The journey began with the Pacific Northwest Aviation Historical Foundation, which aimed to educate the public about the importance of these historical treasures. In 1975, the Museum secured a permanent home with the leasing of land from the Port of Seattle, where the iconic Boeing Red Barn was saved from demolition and restored in 1983. Today, The Museum of Flight continues to expand its exhibits and educational programs, honoring the rich history of aviation while inspiring future generations.
