Our Story

Moving in the Spirit began in 1986 as a vision of Dana Lupton, Leah Mann, and Genene Stewart, who sought to combine their passion for dance with a commitment to social justice. What started as a small dance class for girls at Stewart Avenue Shelter has grown into a vibrant organization that serves over 250 children weekly across Atlanta.

Impact

For 35 years, Moving in the Spirit has provided safe, structured environments for children in metro Atlanta, integrating the arts with high-quality youth development. Remarkably, 100% of the teen dancers graduate on time and pursue higher education or vocational training.
