Healthcare Access in Rural Areas

Our Story

Moving Health began as The Okoa Project, a student initiative at MIT D-Lab. In 2016, an all-female team identified a critical need for transportation among expecting mothers in Tanzania. They designed a motorcycle-attached ambulance trailer to address this issue. By 2019, Moving Health partnered with the Virtue Foundation to expand this initiative to Ghana, providing lifesaving transportation for pregnant mothers and those in need of urgent medical care.

Our Impact

In just three years, Moving Health has launched 15 ambulances across two districts in Ghana, serving approximately 75,000 people. The introduction of these ambulances has halved the referral time to hospitals, significantly improving maternal health outcomes. With 54% of rides dedicated to maternal health, trust in the healthcare system has increased, saving lives during complicated births.
