About MACLA

Founded in 1989, Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana de San José (MACLA) emerged from a vibrant community mobilization advocating for multicultural arts. Located in downtown San José, MACLA serves as a hybrid urban arts space that celebrates the Chicano/Latino experience while fostering connections among diverse communities. With a unique audience composition of 70% Latino and 30% non-Latino, MACLA has become a cornerstone for civic dialogue and social equity through the arts.

Impact of MACLA

Each year, over 30,000 children, youth, families, and community residents engage in MACLA's 50 innovative programs across visual arts, performance, literary arts, youth education, and community development.
