Our Story
In the spring of 2007, a group of fifteen artists of color gathered in a New York City coffee shop, united by a shared vision. These trained actors, writers, and directors, fresh from NYU, sought to create a space where authentic and complex stories of their communities could be told boldly and unapologetically. Thus, The Movement Theatre Company was born. This organization is dedicated to developing and producing new works by artists of color, engaging audiences in rich theatrical dialogues, and empowering artists to celebrate their unique voices.
