Mountain Watershed Association
EIN: 25-1730301 · Melcroft, PA
Our Story
Founded in 1994 by dedicated community members, Mountain Watershed Association (MWA) emerged to combat an underground coal mine proposal threatening the Indian Creek Watershed. This grassroots effort successfully led to the denial of the permit, igniting a movement to address over 150 years of environmental damage. Since then, MWA has restored over 70% of the Indian Creek Watershed and has grown to 16 full-time employees and over 2500 supporters.
Impact
MWA has significantly improved water quality and community health by preventing numerous pollution sources in the Youghiogheny River Watershed.
