Our Story

The Mount Vernon Educational Foundation, Inc. was established in April 2004 by a dedicated group of community members in Mount Vernon, NY. This foundation was born from a shared vision to support innovative educational programs and provide direct funding to enrich the learning experiences in Mount Vernon public schools. Starting with just $2,100, the Foundation quickly gained momentum, receiving a generous $50,000 donation after achieving IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. By 2010, MVEF celebrated a remarkable milestone, raising over $1,000,000 to support various initiatives, including sports programs, national spelling bee competitions, and environmental education projects.

Impact

Every donation makes a significant difference. Recently, the Foundation launched a Digital Learning Initiative in response to the challenges posed by COVID-19. Thanks to the generosity of supporters, over $35,000 was raised, enabling the provision of 120 laptops to students in the Mount Vernon City School District. These devices have been crucial for students' success in remote learning, ensuring they have the tools necessary to thrive academically.
