Our Story

The Mounds Theatre, originally built in 1922, has a rich history as a venue for silent movies and live entertainment. After closing in 1967, it was repurposed as a warehouse until its donation to the Portage for Youth in 2001 by George Hardenbergh. Under the leadership of Raeann Ruth, the theatre was transformed into a vibrant community center and performing arts venue, addressing the needs of youth and families in St. Paul’s East Side.

Impact

Today, the Mounds Theatre serves as a cultural hub, fostering public expression and celebrating the diverse cultures of the Dayton’s Bluff area. It creates employment opportunities and helps reduce community blight.
