Our Story
Motor Racing Outreach (MRO) began with a simple mission: to offer spiritual support through chapel services at racetracks. As the organization grew, it became clear that the need for support extended beyond just drivers to include crew members, officials, and their families. MRO adapted its services to ensure that everyone involved in the motorsport world had access to spiritual care, regardless of where the next race took place.
Over the years, MRO has expanded its offerings to include counseling, crisis support, and officiating life events such as weddings and funerals. A pivotal moment in MRO's history occurred during the 2001 Daytona 500, following the tragic death of Dale Earnhardt. In times of grief, MRO has been a steady presence, providing comfort and guidance to those in need.
By 2014, MRO celebrated its 25th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in its journey. With a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, MRO evolved into a mobile church that travels with the NASCAR circuit, operating out of motor coaches and trailers. This innovative model allows MRO to deliver not only spiritual services but also emotional and practical support to those on the road week after week.
MRO's strength lies in its ability to integrate seamlessly into the racing lifestyle, offering faith and support in a way that fits the unique environment of motorsport. The organization has become a trusted part of the racing community, celebrating milestones and personal achievements alongside its members, further cementing its role as a valued part of the NASCAR family.
Under the leadership of Billy Mauldin, who took over in 2008, MRO has continued to thrive, staying true to its mission of serving the spiritual needs of the motorsport community. Whether offering a moment of prayer before a race or providing support in times of crisis, MRO ensures that spiritual care is always accessible.
