Empowering Mothers in Construction
Born and raised in East New York, Brooklyn, Tonia Rivers transformed her early life experiences into a powerful mission. Navigating the male-dominated construction industry, Tonia began her career as an estimator and climbed the ranks to become a Senior Project Manager, overseeing over $1 billion in projects. As a devoted military spouse and mother of three, Tonia faced the unique challenges of balancing a demanding career with motherhood. After experiencing the struggles of maternity leave and workplace flexibility, she realized the need for support and resources for women in construction.
In 2021, Tonia launched a podcast to share the stories of mothers overcoming obstacles in the construction field, leading to the establishment of Mothers In Construction. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to retaining women in the industry by providing the necessary support during life transitions. The motto "Make it Happen" embodies the resilience and determination of every mother striving to succeed.
