Our Story

Montgomery Preservation, Inc. (MPI) was founded in 1984 to combat the loss of unprotected landmarks in Montgomery County. Evolving from the 1970s Montgomery County Committee of the Maryland Historical Trust, MPI emerged from community concerns for preservation and the need for financial assistance in restoration efforts. Today, MPI serves as a unified voice for preservation, advocating for historic sites and providing essential resources for local initiatives.

Our Impact

MPI has successfully restored the Silver Spring B&O Railroad Station to its 1945 appearance and has played a crucial role in advocating for the preservation of numerous historic sites in Montgomery County. Through public education and support for local nonprofits, MPI contributes significantly to heritage tourism in the area.
