Our Story
The Montgomery County Women’s Center, originally known as the Montgomery County Rape Crisis Coalition, began as a grassroots volunteer organization in 1980. Initially focused on providing crisis intervention and support services to victims of sexual violence, the organization has evolved significantly over the years. In 1986, it merged with Family Violence Outreach, leading to the establishment of its first shelter for battered women and children in 1985. By 1987, the Montgomery County Women’s Center became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, expanding its mission to include comprehensive services for survivors of both family and sexual violence.
