Our Story

The Montana Land Reliance (MLR) was founded in 1978 by Christine Torgrimson and Barbara Rusmore, driven by a commitment to protect Montana's agricultural lands and open spaces from rapid development. Through voluntary conservation easements, MLR has successfully partnered with landowners to preserve the natural beauty and agricultural heritage of Montana.

Impact

Since its inception, MLR has protected over 1.37 million acres of land, ensuring the preservation of vital ecosystems and wildlife habitats. The organization has also safeguarded 2,003 miles of streambank, contributing to the health of Montana's waterways.
