Our Story

Founded on September 8, 1954, Monhegan Associates, Inc. emerged from a deep-rooted commitment to protect the wild beauty and historic features of Monhegan Island, Maine. Established by Theodore M. Edison, who cherished the island since childhood, the organization was born out of a desire to combat overexploitation and preserve the island's unique character for future generations.

Our Impact

Monhegan Associates, Inc. has successfully preserved nearly 400 acres of wildlands and maintained approximately nine miles of trails, ensuring these natural spaces remain accessible to all. Through collaboration with local communities and volunteer engagement, the organization actively contributes to the ecological health of the island.
