Our Story

In 1997, a dedicated group of local citizens united to combat the rising pollution levels in Mobile Bay. Recognizing the importance of healthy waterways for a thriving community, they founded Mobile Baykeeper. The Mobile-Tensaw River Delta, a stunning network of rivers and bayous, is home to one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems in the world. This vital area supports marine life and provides essential resources for local communities. However, pollution continues to threaten these waters, and restoration efforts have proven insufficient.

Our Impact

Mobile Baykeeper is committed to achieving tangible improvements in the health of Coastal Alabama's waters. Success will be measured by the safety of our fish and the cleanliness of our swimming areas, as well as the recovery of seagrasses and oyster reefs. The organization strives to empower coastal communities to take responsibility for their water health.
