The Mixteco Indigena Community Organizing Project (MICOP) was founded in 2001 by Sandra Young, a dedicated social activist and primary care provider. Witnessing the struggles of the indigenous farmworker population in Oxnard, she was inspired to create a platform for empowerment through education and advocacy. With a focus on training Mixtec speakers as leaders and educators, MICOP has grown into a vital organization that serves the indigenous migrant community.

Annually, MICOP provides essential services to over 15,000 individuals across Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. The organization operates a diverse range of programs, including family case management, youth initiatives, leadership development, and legal assistance, all aimed at uplifting the community.
