Missoula Writing Collaborative

Our Story

The Missoula Writing Collaborative was founded in 1994 by philanthropist Susan O’Connor and Professor Virginia Carmichael. Recognizing the need for a poetry-in-the-schools program, they launched an initiative that began in five Missoula schools and has now expanded to 37 rural, tribal, and town schools across Montana.

Impact

Since its inception, MWC has introduced approximately 50,000 students to the joy of creative writing, significantly enhancing literacy and providing essential education in underserved communities.
