Our Story

With a legacy of over 125 years, Mission Neighborhood Centers Inc (MNC) has deep roots in the San Francisco community. Established in 1897 by activists Rachel and Eva Wolfsohn, MNC began as the first settlement house for girls in Northern California, focusing on alleviating urban poverty through cultural programs and education. Over the years, MNC has evolved into a vital resource for over 45,000 low-income seniors, youth, and families across 21 sites in San Francisco.

Our Impact

At the heart of MNC's mission are the principles of empowerment, cultural affirmation, and personal responsibility. The organization provides a comprehensive range of educational programs, workforce development, homelessness prevention, and social services tailored for underserved families, including predominantly Latino, African American, Russian, and Asian communities. MNC nurtures leadership skills, empowering families to create strong, healthy neighborhoods.
