Our Story
In 2002, Dan and Kristen Gillespie embarked on a journey to serve the impoverished communities of Malawi, Africa. Guided by a divine calling, they established connections with local leaders and began their mission to uplift the lives of vulnerable children. The initial efforts included showing the Jesus Film, conducting medical clinics, and teaching hygiene and income-generating activities.
As they walked through the villages, they encountered orphaned children suffering from malnutrition and lack of education. This heartbreaking reality led to the establishment of the Kogoya Hope Center in 2005, which provided daily nutritious meals and medical care, significantly improving the health and mindset of the children.
In 2011, the Thuchila Hope Center was opened, thanks to the generous support of a church in northern California. Together, these centers now serve over 400 children from 19 villages, offering holistic care that includes nutrition, education, and life skills training.
Recognizing the need for better educational opportunities, Miqlat expanded its mission by building elementary schools at the Hope Centers. The Miqlat Primary School Kogoya opened in 2016, followed by the Miqlat Primary School Thuchila in 2017, ensuring that children receive the quality education they deserve.
