Our Story

Founded in the heart of Minnesota, the Minnesota Association of Charter School Authorizers (MACSA) plays a pivotal role in the charter school movement. Since the enactment of the nation’s first charter school law in 1991, MACSA has evolved to ensure that charter schools are held to the highest standards of accountability and excellence. With the implementation of the Minnesota Authorizer Performance Evaluation System (MAPES) in 2015, MACSA is dedicated to promoting quality charter school authorizing and supporting diverse educational opportunities for K-12 students.

Impact

As of September 2019, MACSA has facilitated the operation of 165 charter schools, serving over 56,200 K-12 students across Minnesota, representing approximately 6.5% of the state’s public school enrollment.
