About Albany Youth Orchestra
Founded in 2007, the Albany Youth Orchestra (formerly known as Mid-Valley Prelude Sinfonia) was created by passionate parents to provide youth in the Albany area with the opportunity to learn string instruments such as the violin, viola, cello, and string bass. With no existing youth orchestra programs in schools and limited private instruction, this initiative has blossomed into a vibrant program offering five orchestral levels, piano, choir, and more. In 2021, the organization moved to the AYO Music Center, enhancing its ability to serve students from all schools and expanding its class offerings.
Impact of Music Education
Music education is not just about learning an instrument; it fosters joy, satisfaction, and pride in youth. Research shows that instrumental music study significantly boosts children's learning abilities and provides essential social and mental health benefits that last a lifetime.
